BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Dr. H. Andrew Silman, Pastor of Cornerstone PCA
Andy Silman grew up in the historic First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia where his father was a ruling elder and clerk of session. His home church was the birthplace of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (1861) and for a time was served by Dr. Joseph Ruggles Wilson, father of President Woodrow Wilson. Andy came to the saving knowledge of Christ at the age of 19. In God’s gracious providence he was married to Eleanor Rucker Vaiden on August 20, 1970. Ellie and Andy have two married children, Shannon and Campbell, and five grandchildren. Their son-in-law is a PCA pastor in Houston, Texas, and their son is a PCA pastor in Zachary, Louisiana.
Dr. Silman earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia International University in 1975 and his Master of Divinity Degree with honors from Covenant Theological Seminary in 1978. He earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1996.
Dr. Silman served as the Associate Pastor of Main Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Mississippi (1978-79); Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Belzoni, Mississippi (1979-81); Organizing Pastor and then Pastor of the Redlands Community Presbyterian Church, Homestead, Florida (1981 - 1987). During his tenure the church grew from no members to 200, purchased ten acres of land, and constructed a worship facility; Pastor of the historic Plains Presbyterian Church, Zachary, Louisiana (Baton Rouge) (1987 - 1994); Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi (1994 – 2006); and since November of 2006 he has served as Pastor of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Brevard, North Carolina.
Dr. Silman has served as the Chairman of the PCA’s Mission to North America Committee and the Reformed University Ministries Committee. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Covenant Theological Seminary, and represented the seminary on the PCA’s Administrative Committee. He has served as a member of the Ministerial Advisory Board of Reformed Theological Seminary. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees for Friends of China Reformed Theological Seminary, Taipei, Taiwan, and as an Adjunct Faculty member of that school. He is currently chairman of the Shepherding Committee of Western Carolina Presbytery of the PCA.
Dr. Silman has ministered in the following countries: Haiti, India, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, and Scotland, and Taiwan.
